Slovakia Prime Minister Robert FicoA big step backward for LGBT rights in Slovakia this week.

Gay Star News reports:

Slovakia has moved to ban same-sex marriage in its constitution with 102 out of 150 lawmakers voting in favor of the ban. A two-thirds majority of lawmakers was needed so if only three less lawmakers had opposed the measure it would not have passed. Only 18 lawmakers voted against the ban, which was primarily supported by the opposition Christian Democrats and the ruling Smer-Social Democracy party of Prime Minister Robert Fico. Political observers say the move is a populist bid by Fico to broaden his appeal after he failed to win the country’s presidency in March.

It’s a classic move – climb to power over the backs of your LGBT citizens. That doesn’t make it any less disgusting.
